Microblading FAQs

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure designed to cosmetically enhance the natural shape of the eyebrow using implantation of safe pigments into the epidermis layer of the skin with a fine blade, mimicking the eyebrows natural hair. The results are crisp, fine and realistic looking. The treatment can last up to 1-2 years depending on the skin type and is a two part procedure - initial consultation/procedure and touch-up.

At the first session, the eyebrow shape is measured according to the client's facial features, such as the eyes, nose and eyebrow bone in order to achieve the most suitable natural eyebrow shape. The pigment color is the ink that is implanted into the skin to mimic hair-like strokes. The color is selected depending on the color of the client's eyebrow hair and skin tone. Please allow two hours for this session. During the first 7-10 days after the procedure, the brows appear darker but will turner lighter and thinner as the brows heal. During the second week, the brows will fade and look like they have disappeared (as the skin heals over your skin). After 4-5 weeks, the pigment reappears and you will fully heal. A complimentary and essential touch-up is scheduled at 6 – 8 weeks after the first session. During the touch-up, the eyebrow is re-measured and analyzed to check whether more strokes need to be added. A touch-up must be completed within 6 - 8 weeks to avoid additional charges.

Tien Vo, founder of Beauty Bar by Tien, is trained and certified under the PhiBrows™ European method of microblading. PhiBrows™ by Branco Babic is the most prestigious microblading academy in the world. The PhiBrow™ method is based off of nature's intelligence, by using the Golden Ratio (aka. Phi ϕ - 1:618) to measure your total facial proportions and discover exactly where your brow should ideally be placed.

BENEFITS:
- balanced brows by utilizing the golden ratio that suits your unique face shape
- almost impossible to differentiate between what hairs are real and what hairs are not
- a few strokes can simply be added to your own brow to create definition or extra length and thickness
- perfect for those who have over plucked or lost their brows through age, hormonal changes, and medication- or are simply tired of dedicating time to drawing their brows on everyday only to wipe or sweat them off
- healed results of microblading provide a much softer look than that of traditional brow makeup which can look overdone and harsh on the face.
- PhiBrows pigments are iron-oxide FREE pigments are a safe alternative that do not deposit heavy metals in the the skin.

Is microblading the same as permanent brow tattoos? No, it is not. The work involved with eyebrow embroidery is only performed on the epidermis layer of the skin (closer to the surface).

Does it hurt? The sensation of microblading is said to be similar to tweezing or threading. A topical anesthetic is used after the first pass to minimize discomfort. Note that if you are on your menstrual cycle then it could increase your sensitivity to pain.

Does it look good? Yes, with the microblading method, you can have natural looking brows, 24/7. Because this process is done by hand, it is easy to avoid harsh, dark, and un-natural brows. Hair strokes WILL appear crisp, darker and bold at first, but will soften up in appearance as the tissue heals. The area will shed, taking some color with it, and this is normal. The area will begin to oxidize and darken over the 1st month.

Do I get a say in how my brows are shaped? After Tien shapes your brows with a pencil, she gives you a handheld mirror to see how you like the shape. Once you approve, she begins the microblading.

How long will it last? Although there is no definitive answer because it depends on each individual's skin type and lifestyle, results can last anywhere from 1-2 years. Factors such as density of pigment, environmental factors (UV light, tanning, not using sun protection), and your overall health/physiology (retention of pigment varies with each person) impact how long the procedure will last. If you have very oily skin, are a smoker, and/or iron deficient/anemic, pigment will fade faster. It is very important to follow aftercare instructions carefully for best results. Over time, the pigment will become softer so a color boost treatment is recommended every year.

Will I need a touch up? It depends on your skin type and lifestyle. Tien 's clients retain up to 95% of strokes from first session. A touch-up is performed at 6 -8 weeks after first session. At your touch up appointment, any changes you would like to make are discussed. Once again you can expect the color to fade, but to a much lesser degree.

How often should I come in to refresh the color? In order to keep your microblading results looking fresh, we recommend a touch up every 6 months - 2 years after initial touch-up, depending on skin type and lifestyle.

How can I extend the life of my procedure? Your beautiful eyebrows will last longer if you strictly follow the aftercare procedures.

How long does the procedure take? This will vary with the type of work you are having done and your sensitivity. Generally speaking, initial microblading session takes about 2 hours. Touch-up takes up 45 minutues – 1 hour depending on retention.

Can I resume normal activity, exercising, gardening etc.? Most normal activities can be resumed right away. Heavy exercise should be avoided for at least a week for best results—any sweat formed on your brows can fade your healing color. Swimming should be on hold for at least a week, pool chemicals would erode your healing color as well. Outdoors activities such as gardening or golf can be resumed as long as your treatment area remains clean, dry, and out of the sun.

Is there going to be any scabbing ? Tien 's clients experienc light itching or flaking. There can be a little scabbing if your skin is sensitive. DO NOT pick off these scabs; picking scabs may result in a loss of color or minor scarring.

Why do I see color flaking off after a week? This can happen for a number of reasons, but it usually has to do with skin type. Older skin, more weathered skin, and drier skin may flake color off during the healing process. There should be color underneath, but if not, Tien will touch up at your follow up appointment.

Will I be swollen? You won't be swollen, you just might have slightly red skin around eyebrows, but this will go away.

I already have permanent makeup and want to change the shape or color. Can you help? Changes to your old design can be made however this depends on the color and shape you already have. If you have a previous tattoo it's best to email clear pictures to beautybarbytien@gmail.com from all sides without makeup so Tien can determine if it can be performed.

Can it be removed? Small exfoliations and corrections may be possible, but if you want a complete removal you should see a laser specialist.

Why do my eyebrows look so dark during the healing process? This is a result of the natural oxidation process that takes place in the skin once pigment has been implanted. The color reacts slowly with oxygen in the air, turning it darker. This is a completely natural and normal occurrence. The color will fade as your skin heals. Don't be alarmed if your skin turns patchy during this process. It is very normal. That is why a touch-up appointment is required.

Are results guaranteed? Microblading is an art not an exact science therefore healed results varies with each person. Beauty Bar By Tien make no guarantees about how your brows will heal and you may need additional sessions for best results (at an additional charge). Various factors affect healed results and Tien does her best to provide you with the best service with the high quality training she has received. Please read the FAQ's and Before/Aftercare to determine if microblading is a good fit for you.

NOTE: Beauty Bar By Tien does not have control over your body's healing process (healing is specific to each individual) but do expect that some residual swelling is normal for all procedures. The area may appear uneven, dry, itchy, tender, red & irritated. This is all 100% normal. DO NOT PICK. These symptoms will dissipate each day and vary on an individual basis. Color WILL fade/soften anywhere from 40% to 60%. At the touch up faded areas will be fine tuned. It is also important to realize that you will need a color boost every 1-2 years after the touch-up to maintain it's fresh natural appearance. You may need to powder and/or pencil even after the healed results. Remember, this is an enhancement to your natural brows not a permanent one.
